Does Opposition Mean I Missed God?

I recently got this question from a new friend and student of mine -

“When we as believers encounter a continued difficulty or opposition in a new area in our lives we are moving into, how can we discern if the opposition is because we are out of the will of God or because we are in the will of God?”
